Sarah:
Anyways I'm off to watch the notebook....apparently
I'm missing out cuz I haven't seen it yet.
Simon:
It's
nice. Sad. There is a serious absence of
ninjas. But I still recommend it.
Sarah:
Hahaha..! Really? I'm not psyched to watch it at all, but
everyone keeps telling me its soooo good.
Especially guys.
Simon:
It is
good.
Sarah:
They say it's
decent for a chick flick.
Simon:
It is.
Sarah:
I'll give
you my opinion tomorrow!
Simon:
I'm
looking forward to it. Have a good night.
Sarah:
You too.

Sarah:
P.S. The
notebook was good.
Simon:
It is!
Sarah:
Except that I still don't understand why guys like
it so much.
Simon:
Because
many women seem to think that romance is all about flowers, chocolate, and
candle lit dinner. It's not. Romance is brutal and intense in even the
most subtle ways.
The
instant he met her he knew/decided that she was more important to him than
anything in the world. He loved her and
suffered for her all his life, but didn't ever regret it for even a second.
She
usually didn't get it even when she was cognitively functional. Her dementia is intended to be a metaphor for
the romantic obliviousness of women.
I
appreciate that the statement was made through that film. I think that most men who have been in love
can relate.
Sarah:
So guys like to suffer?
Simon:
No... Absolutely
not. But the point is that we do to an
extent. It's a life with undertones of
quiet desperation.
Sarah:
So you like the movie because you can relate
to it?
Simon:
Conceptually...
yes. That's
exactly why it's a romance story that men like rather than loath. It's not mush chocolate and roses bullshit
pandering to feminine misconceptions. It's the real thing.
Sarah:
That's true...
Awe I get it now.
Simon:
Can I
post this conversation on my blog?
Sarah:
Sure
Simon: Thanks
